I have taken another step towards following my goals… my wife and I have come to New York for several months to audition, find agents, take classes and generally try our luck.
I’ve been here for a few weeks now, and I’m really liking it. I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I am. While New York has always been exciting to visit, I imagined living here would not be my cup of tea. Why?…. Well, it seemed too gray for me. I mean the overall color palette is gray…. gray buildings, gray concrete everywhere the eyes sees (except for Central Park). I compare this in my mind to Miami, where the color palette is beautiful…. lush greens and turquoise blues… the contrast of blue skies to the vegetation that grows everywhere… it really is beautiful to see.
But New York has something to it… a vibrant energy that is contagious. You feel the hustle in the air. Everything seems close…. just blocks or a subway ride away… easy to navigate. And there are so many different places to discover and explore… it’s truly an adventure.
And then there’s the fact that I feel there is so much opportunity here for my career. Maybe that also has something to do with the fact that I’m really liking it here. This is a bigger market than Miami for TV and film… so there is more going on. It’s super competitive and difficult. Then again, what isn’t?
I was fortunate to get a commercial agent quickly. Now begins the difficult task of finding a “legit” agent, which is the word they use here to describe a film and TV agent. And this is a process… create a target list, do mailings, follow ups, interviews, memorize contrasting monologues, more follow ups… it’s a climb, but worthwhile.
So here’s to another step in my chosen direction… gotta keep moving my feet… head down and towards my goal…
Thanks, as always, for checking in!
