That’s me atop the scaffolding! Yesterday, I played the “Architect” in a KFC commercial for Latin America. The idea for the commercial was pretty cool… I supposedly build a small lift so that I can bring ‘heavy’ KFC chicken sandwich to the top. As I do that, a crowd gathers beneath me and notices the ginormous sandwich I’m eating and start reaching for it, as if they could grab it. I notice them drooling over my sandwich, so I give a great big smile and eat away. You can see the video here!
So simple enough, right?
Well… this is embarrassing, but this was the hardest thing I have had to do on camera yet. I couldn’t take 2 big bites out of the sandwich and smile with teeth showing and not have any crumbs on my go-tee. I felt like such a dork. The other actor (Todd Bethel), who was playing the architect for the Caribbean market, did a great job eating the sandwich. So I get on set, last shoot of the day, and they are way behind schedule… they only have about 10 minutes to take this shot because we’re losing light… so I get up there with the sandwich and the camera about 2 feet away from my face. I take a huge bite… and by the way… the bread was stale and dry because it has been out all day…. so I take the bite and the damn bread crumbs get all over my go-tee. I lick my lips once, but I still feel crumbs, so I lick again… and still!… the crumbs are still there. “CUT!”, yells the director (who was super cool) and tells me to try and not get crumbs on my mustache… so I go again and same thing…. then we go again, and this time, as I lick my lips to remove the crumbs, my tongue is encrusted with bread… I’m sure it look nasty close up because I heard people in the background say “oh, that’s nasty!”…. so suffice it to say, we had to roll again…. well, about 7 shots later, they got the shot… I felt embarrassed… but to my defense, the go-tee did me in with the crumbs… the other actor, Todd, didn’t have a go-tee, so he didn’t have issues.
Anyway…. the day went well… I just like walking away knowing I did great, but this time, I walked away thinking “I gotta practice eating with a big smile showing teeth”. Such is the life!!!! 😉
